Getting Started

If you are new to AI tools, start here:

  1. Experiment with a chatbot. Try Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini. Ask it to summarize a historical event and evaluate the response for accuracy and nuance.
  2. Read a critical perspective. See the Ethics & Critical Perspectives page for scholarship on AI limitations and biases in historical contexts.
  3. Try a classroom exercise. The Teaching with AI page includes ready-to-use assignment frameworks.
  4. Learn prompt engineering. Small changes in how you phrase a request can dramatically improve AI output. See Prompt Engineering for History.

This site is intended as a living resource. Contributions and suggestions are welcome via GitHub.
